Yes.
The system variable $_AppData is set to the Windows short path name. This is done so that it can be used in other utilities (especially .bat files) where long path names are not supported and/or cause errors.
To get the Windows short path name we use the Delphi system function extractshortpathname() on the long path name. However, in testing the folder used by tamwood53 I also get a blank result (something of a very long time sleeping bug Image may be NSFW.

), so there is a fundamental problem when using this function with the "users" folder (perhaps because it is a system folder)I will need to research futher to see if I can come up with a work around.
However, in the mean time if tamwood53 wants to fix this I suggest he use a folder something other than "users". As per the example link I suggest you keep it simple and just have the users name in the root folder, so something like "c:\dave" and "c:\jane" as per the example should work just fine.
