Hi Elaine,
I suggest to not delete the database. It is a bit botched up but this is a good learning experience as long as you don't get too frustrated.
Before you do much else. Scroll your grid and note that some waypoint names are bold while other are not. This bold means that that particular geocache record has additional (Child) waypoints.
How you got some records into the grid that are not geocache waypoints, but are "additional" waypoints is a mystery. You could potentially have done that accidentally as jholly indicated, but you might also have gotten them by reimporting your GPSr back into GSAK (if you cannot imagine doing that then please forget I suggested it
). YOu might also have found yet another amazing method that we have not heard of, but that is unlikely. In any case, you have already noticed that there is a pattern (no "Placed By" info). If we can agree that these items have no business in the main grid (since they are actually also attached to each record where they belong), then deleting them is done as follows: Clear userflags (F7), sort by Place By, now set userflag for all that have no info in that field, Now press Delete key, Dialog pops up, indicate do delete all user-flagged records. Now this is repaired.
Also, so that we can help you get yoru GPS loaded properly, please tell us the make and model and how you are loading it (Send Waypoints, Macro, ...).
