First issue was to find out how to runsafe mode on windows 8 - hold shift when hitting restart icon.
In safe mode GSAK works perfectly - progress.
Added exclusions to Defender for gsak program and data files. Ran a scan, plus malware scan, ccleaner.
Still have the lag. Not aware of any other scanner software running.
I did have an adware virus the other week which I thought I had removed - received additional files when downloading GIMP from a different host site.
Still have the lag but as a workaround we can always go into safe mode.
