There's a link in my post above (the underlined Safe Mode) that takes you to a page that tells you have to get into Safe Mode on various flavors of Windows. Sorry that wasn't apparent.

Let's try to narrow it down further so you don't have to restart your PC to use GSAK.
You can use MSCONFIG to selectively disable start up programs and use trial and error to pin down the culprit (click here for a past discussion and directions). That post was written before Windows 8 - to start MSCONFIG in Windows 8, go to the desktop, hold down the windows logo key and press the R key. Type msconfig in the open box, then click on OK.
