It might be relevant to know how geocaching.com handles EXIF info when it does an image resize. I would suggest that the majority of geocachers expect whatever is happening during that process.
If that retains meta data like the latitude, longitude, f-stop, camera name, etc, then it would make sense for GSAK to do the same.
