Import von Childwaypoints ? by RNKBerlin - 2018-04-09

NB: GDAK erzeugt "Stages of a Multicache". ;-)

When solving mysteries, I often need to make notes and for this I use Onenote.

A nice function i GSAK would be to open and/or create Onenote documents directly from within GSAK.

Has someone here already made something for this? I was looking into Custom URL's og perhaps a macro, but if there is something ready for use already, I rather use that instead of making something myself.

It has worked for 5000+ logs so far, and worked again yesterday. Don´t know why, but maybe something strange with the problems related to Geocaching.com and there issues.

At least solved.

Why don't you use GSAK's internal note system (aka "UserNote")?

I would use "Waypoint => Add/change/delete notes" (CTRL+t) in GSAK to add a link to the respective GSAK page. The code to use would be:
CODE
<a href="https://onedrive.live.com/InsertFullOneNoteURLhere">OneNote</a>
.
You get the link to the OneNote page by right clicking on the respective page in OneNote, and then saying "Copy link to page".

Because the editor is not good enough for my use and it can only be edited within GSAK. Onenote can be used on my phone, for instance.

Or the link could also be stored in a custom field and then I could make a button or two to create and open those links.

You've posted in the Feature Requests forum, but it sounds like you are exploring creating a macro. Is this a feature request? If so, I'll add the required Poll. If not, I'll move it to the macro support forum. smile.gif

PS - I don't use One Note, but this probably could be done with a macro using the RunPgm command to open One Note and pass parameters to it (e.g. a combination of cache information from GSAK and parameters One Note understands, if any). I do something similar (using Notepad) in the EditDescription macro (here). smile.gif

PPS - if you let me know what you want to copy from GSAK to OneNote (e.g. cache code or cache name or today's date or....) and any OneNoteswitches you want to use (from the link above) I can put a macro together for you, but you will have to test it (since I don't have OneNote installed on any of my devices). My plan would be to copy the data being transferred from GSAK to the Windows clipboard, then use the OneNote /Paste command to drop it into OneNote, ready for you to add additional information). wink.gif

Hallo,

Will sagen, dass man u.

Publish Logs, Log Images by Mat Smith - 2018-04-09

I've noticed a few issues when using the Publish Log / Edit Log / Images options. Sorry my description is a bit longwinded.

Clicking on the Add button causes the Cache Details window to go blank and freeze.

Selecting an image displays it in the Small preview window, where it can be moved and magnified, but it isn't auto rotated so is often the wrong way around. Meanwhile the Cache details window is brought to the foreground, but is blank and still frozen.

Selection Open, puts the selected image in to the Cache Details window, but it is displayed full size - so only a small fraction is visible, the window is still frozen - the scroll bars don't work, and the window can't be moved, and the image can't be dragged within the window. But the image has been auto rotated - but this is sometimes difficult to see.

The Log images window offers the chance to enter a Description, change quality, rotate the image etc. It would be useful to have an indication at this point as to whether the image needs to be rotated or not - The small preview often indicates that it does, but the large Cache Details image generally shows that it doesn't - so a bit confusing (I guess the camera type also plays a role here).

Clicking OK now shows the image (so you finally know if it's the right way around).

The Description is shown, and so is a blank comment field, but, there is no way to get into and edit this field.

If possible I would like it to behave in a more friendly way.
1) Leave the Cache Details page until there is an image to put in it.
2) Auto rotate the selected image in the small preview window (so it's clear whether any manual rotation will be needed later).
3) When the image is loaded into the Cache Details page scale it to fit the available window, perhaps with options to magnify, scroll, move the window etc. (i.e. unfreeze the window).
4) Either allow the Comment field to be edited, or remove it.

Despite my list of issues the Add Images process generally works very well - but I feel it would benefit from a bit of attention.

Thanks for a brilliant program.
Mat Smith.

GPS-SEND WAYPOINTS-CHANGE SYMBOLS by Artemis&Apollo - 2018-04-09

I would be interested in other options for loading caches to a NUVI but not in this thread. I'll open another for that topic shortly.

Meanwhile, in this thread, I'd really like help understanding the Change Symbols part of Send-Waypoints.

I'm looking to relate the GSAK "Change Symbols" option to symbols available on the Nuvi/Drive. If I can understand it I might be able to have a second symbol for parking coordinates; which is all I'm trying to do.

Please note the caveat above the symbols in your screen shot:

user posted image

As I said above, AFAIK, the Garmin automotive units, like the DRIVE, do not support different symbols for Favorites other than through individual editing, as TxStrawberryCreek noted. If you want different symbols, you have to use a different method that sends the caches as Points of Interest (POI). Is that not clear?

I understand that "not all symbols are supported". I'm hoping to find 1 besides the green heart.

Does anyone know how the symbols get translated to the GPS.

I suspect that GSAK sends a GPX file to the GPS. Does anyone know if that is true?

A GPX 1.0 Developer's Manual I've looked at shows the following for 'symbol' information. It appears to be a name that is passed; if I am interpreting it correctly.

<sym>

Optional in: <wpt> <rtept> <trkpt>

<sym>Scenic Area</sym>

Text of GPS symbol name. For interchange with other programs, use the exact spelling of the
symbol on the GPS, if known.

Anyone know exactly does GSAK sends and how?

Yes, it does.

So you can just open the file that GSAK sends (any text editor will do) and interrogate the <sym> element.

That should point you in the right direction.

However, like Kai Team, I believe it doesn't matter what the <sym> element is - favorites always show with the heart icon.

Edit one of the Parking Favorites with a Heart symbol on your unit and give it another icon.
Now open the Currnet.gpx file with a text editor and compare the <sym> and <type> tags from this favorit with an unedited favorite. Try a search and replace on some Parking waypoints and check if the changes are made it to the units gui.

Große Datenbank -> Fehler beim GPX Import by rhu - 2018-04-09

Ralf

1 million main waypoints, 555,000 waypoints and about 5 million log entries, the database file is approx 6.8 GB in size.
If I want to import GPX files now and then, it happens that GSAK crashes after the import and I need to load a backup.
It does not matter whether the GPX file was created directly from a PA account on the geocaching.com page or via http://gcarchiv.bplaced.net/

What are the symptoms of the crash? Are there any error messages? When you say you have to load a backup, does that mean that GSAK will not run when you restart it after the crash? If so, are there any error messages at that time?

QUOTE
It is strange that the same files imported into a separate database do not cause any problems !

When you load caches into a database, GSAK has to do a lot of internal housekeeping - checking and updating various internal dependencies, etc. I suspect that with a database this size, the housekeeping chores are overwhelming your computer's resources. GSAK is a 32 bit program and Windows will only allow it to access 2 GB of RAM, unless it is large address space aware (linked with /LARGEADDRESSAWARE), then it may get 4 GB - regardless of how much physical RAM is installed in your system.

When you load the file into a smaller database, the housekeeping demands are much less and the computer resources are sufficient.

Missing "Z" at end of date/time in GPX export by TheWinterTrio - 2018-04-09

When I export a GPX file with data in the "Extra Information to show as First log", the date/time of that log entry doesn't have the ending "Z" like all the other date/time exported fields.

CODE
<groundspeak:date>2018-04-09T08:00:00</groundspeak:date>
   <groundspeak:type>Write note</groundspeak:type>
   <groundspeak:finder id="0">GSAK</groundspeak:finder>

Without that "Z", Cachly doesn't understand the date properly and the GSAK log sits at the end of the logs instead of at the beginning...

All other date/time fields look like this:
CODE
<groundspeak:date>2018-03-27T12:00:00Z</groundspeak:date>

Can the "Z" be easily added into the GSAK specific log entry?

Thanks.
