Further testing shows it's related to which of the "Non database items to restore" are selected. All the following tests were done using a full backup.
Leaving all databases unselected I tested by doing a restore with the various "Non database items to restore" selected then reopened the Restore dialog:
Views - remains checked when Restore dialog reopened
Views & Filters - both remain checked when Restore dialog reopened
Views, Filters and Macros - all 3 remain checked when Restore dialog reopened
Views, Filters, Macros and Everything Else - all are un-checked when Restore dialog reopened
I know there are a lot more permutations of possible selection but hopefully this will provide a clue for Clyde.
