I don't know what you mean by this:
I am not aware of such an option in GSAK and searching the internet for "adpath:" provides no help to me. Please show us some links that would give us a way to figure out what you might be referencing.
With GSAK started and running, before doing anything else, please also show us a screenshot of the General Tab of GSAK=>Tools=>Options.
If your use of the technology outside of GSAK is correct, then I would guess that GSAK is starting up in a place where it is not able to find the GSAK.ini file and thus starts up without any settings (so various strings in the screenshot will be empty). It then creates an ini files with whatever it has, but now all the strings will be empty. The next time it starts up it will find that ini file and you will be in a vicious cycle.

I have set up GSAK version 8.3.1.48 using the "adpath: c:\users\XXX\my documents\XXX GSAK" option |
With GSAK started and running, before doing anything else, please also show us a screenshot of the General Tab of GSAK=>Tools=>Options.
