It's hard to offer a useful reply because you aren't specific about where you want to use the data. I suspect when you say "another machine type" you mean a machine running a non-DOS\Windows operating system, like Unix, Linux, OS X or Mac OS? If so, I suspect the problem is not the delimiters (if you want columns you have to have some delimiter, be it commas, tabs or spaces, to indicate where a column begins and ends), but the line terminators (click here for an article that explains the issue). If you're more specific about what you are trying to do, we may be able to offer more specific help.
