I've heard of reports of problems with the .ggz format. The index file gets corrupt and your toast.

Your right on the .gpx issue, but it is fairly easy to avoid. Delete the .gpx files, reboot the unit with no .gpx files present, load the new .gpx files and reboot. That is the procedure I use and don't have a problem. The procedure was suggested by lignumaqua.
