You may never have known but that does not make it irrelevant. Please tell us how far away the center point for the area you are going to is from your current location. We need to know how far away it is to determine if that is the problem. As an aside, a GGZ file is just a zipped GPX file with an index. The file type does not affect which waypoints appear on the GPSr assuming you are sending waypoints to a modern Garmin GPSr that knows about GGZ files (which the Montana does). |
Maybe I confused the issue by interjecting GGZ files. My initial intent though was to first export to the GPS r and then recive back waypoints from the GPSr so I could view exactly what had moved both ways on the PC screen.
Recieve waypoints only seems to directly work with GPX files.
There were two generations of the Montana and there are subtle differences with each;
First generation 600 series was pre GGZ implementation and thus has a GPX limit of around 12,000 caches
Second generation 610 - 680t can use either GPX or GGZ
If multiple GGZ files are loaded the Montana seems to fall over or become unresponsive.

You can easily get the distance. Ensure distance is showing on your GSAK grid or add it to the view and if your centre point is originally set to your home coordinates just view the distance before recentering for your export.
If you are able to whilst your GPSr is connected to your computer use Windows File Manager to view the files on the GPSr
Identify which drive letter is assigned to the GPSR
Then Navigate to the Garmin folder
Then navigate to the GGZ folder count no. of GGZ files (if exist)
Then navigate to the GPX folder and similarly count no. of GPX files (if exist)
Do files listed have names making sense to you is there anything archaic which could be deleted?
If you can relay those results it might help us assess what is happening.
