Caches Found Workflow (Garmin 60CSx) by TxStrawberryCreek - 2013-06-22

GSAK Version: 8.3.1.14

Windows Version: XP (SP3)

GPSr: Garmin 60CSx

I'm trying to: Get the Garmin to tell GSAK what caches I have found since loading caches earlier.

The steps I've taken are:
1) Load a cache from GSAK onto the GPSr.
2) Go find the cache.
3) On the GPSr, highlight the "Found" button and press the "ENTR" button.
4) Bring the GPSr home.
5) Plug it into the computer with GSAK running.
6) Select "Publish logs..." from the "Geocaching.com access" menu.
7) Click the "Fetch" button on the subsequent window.
8) Select "From GPSr" from the popup menu.

The results (including error messages, if any): "Field notes" file not found. Make sure your GPSr is connected "and" contains a field notes file. Error number: 833

I know I can look up a certain cache in my GSAK database and manually edit the record to show that it has been found. All I want to do is automate that process. I have found no information anywhere on how to do this with my particular GPSr, the choice of which may, of course, prove to be the exact reason this process doesn't work for me.

My workflow up to now has been to find the cache using the Garmin, then using the iPhone Geocaching app to leave myself a field note, and complete the log on the website later. I use a small bit of boilerplate, then insert the particulars on the find of that cache. Continuing to log that way is not really a problem, but until I can figure out an easier way to tell GSAK that a cache has been found, that's going to screw up FSG.

I hope to learn how to use GSAK to do my logs, but if GSAK can't find out which caches within the database have been found, I seem to be stuck there.

I'm certain that there's some Option or Preference either within GSAK or on the Garmin that needs to be set a certain way, and it's not that way yet. I just seem to need help in finding the right combination of parameters to make this work.

I've gotten some advice on the FB GSAK forum, but it has yet to solve the problem. I'd welcome any suggestions here. Thanks!
